Nature of Job
Assistant Chemist Trainees are typically posted at NTPC’s power stations or regional chemical laboratories. Their primary responsibilities include quality monitoring of water and steam systems, chemical testing of fuel and lubricants, environmental compliance, and supporting the day-to-day operational requirements of the chemistry department. They are also involved in conducting routine analysis, maintaining analytical equipment, and ensuring that plant operations align with safety and regulatory standards.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the position, candidates are required to meet the following educational and age-related qualifications:
Educational Qualification:

Candidates must have completed M.Sc. in Chemistry (full-time) from a recognized Indian university or institution.

A minimum of 60% aggregate marks is required for General, EWS, and OBC candidates.

For SC, ST, and PwBD candidates, passing marks are sufficient.

Candidates in the final year of their post-graduate course are eligible to apply, provided they can produce their final results by July 31, 2025.

Selection Process
The recruitment process for the Assistant Chemist Trainee position will involve a national-level online written examination. The online test will assess the candidate’s subject knowledge as well as their general aptitude.
The test is likely to include two parts:

Aptitude Test (General English, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning)

Medical Standards

Candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD, XSM (Ex-Servicemen), and all female applicants are exempted from the payment of the application fee.

Training and Probation

Posting Locations
Candidates selected as Assistant Chemist Trainees may be posted at any of NTPC’s thermal or renewable energy stations across India. These include facilities in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and others.
Willingness to serve at remote and challenging locations is considered an important attribute for the role. NTPC maintains a rotational transfer policy for employees based on business requirements.
